8-Ball table with solids, stripes and the black 8 ball

8-Ball

Basic rules: Clear your assigned group of solids or stripes, then legally pocket the 8 ball in the called pocket.

What makes it different: Unlike rotation games, you can choose the order of your group, so pattern planning and access to the 8 ball matter most.

9-Ball table with the balls arranged for a rotation game

9-Ball

Basic rules: Contact the lowest-numbered ball first on each normal shot. You win by legally pocketing the 9, including with a combination.

What makes it different: It is the quickest rotation game here and allows an early win, while 10-Ball requires its final ball to remain until last.

10-Ball table with called-shot controls and numbered balls

10-Ball

Basic rules: On normal shots, hit the lowest-numbered ball first and call the ball and pocket. You must legally pocket the 10 last.

What makes it different: The called-shot requirement and last-ball finish make it more deliberate and less dependent on fortunate pots than 9-Ball.

Straight Pool table prepared for continuous scoring play

Straight Pool

Basic rules: Call any ball and pocket to score one point, continue after each legal pot, and play through 14-ball reracks until reaching the target score.

What makes it different: There are no groups or winning ball; the challenge is building long runs and preparing the break ball for the next rack.

One Pocket table showing the player and bot scoring pockets

One Pocket

Basic rules: Each player owns one corner pocket. Any object ball can score, but only in your assigned pocket; the first player to eight wins.

What makes it different: Pocket ownership makes banking, cue-ball speed and defensive play more important than clearing balls in a fixed order.

Bank Pool table with a called cushion route

Bank Pool

Basic rules: Call the object ball, pocket and cushion route, then make a clean bank. The first player to score eight legal banks wins.

What makes it different: A direct pot, combination or uncalled cushion route does not score; every point must come from a precisely declared bank shot.

Killer Pool table with player and bot life counters

Killer Pool

Basic rules: You and the bot start with three lives and take one shot per turn. Pocket any object ball to stay safe; a miss or foul costs a life.

What makes it different: A successful pot does not extend your turn. The goal is survival, not clearing a group, reaching a score or making a specific final ball.

Blackball table with two groups and the black ball

Blackball / English Pool

Basic rules: Clear your assigned group, then legally pocket the black. Shots are not called, and a foul gives the opponent a free shot before their normal visit.

What makes it different: Its free-shot and baulk rules distinguish it from 8-Ball, which uses ball in hand and a called pocket for the final 8 ball in this version.

Speed Pool table with timer and cleared-ball counter

Speed Pool

Basic rules: Play solo and clear all 15 object balls in any order. Every foul adds 10 seconds to your final time.

What makes it different: There is no opponent, group or required ball order; success is measured entirely by a fast, controlled clearance.

Rotation Pool table with fifteen numbered scoring balls

Rotation Pool

Basic rules: Contact the lowest-numbered ball first. Every ball pocketed on a legal shot scores its face value, and the first player to 61 points wins.

What makes it different: It uses all 15 balls and rewards their point values, unlike 9-Ball and 10-Ball, where one designated ball decides the rack.
